New Utah Jazz Jerseys!

THE MOUNTAINS ARE BACK!!

Utah just dropped their new jerseys for the upcoming 2024-25 season, and man are they great. They finally got rid of their dull, minimalist jerseys from last season, which I’m sure we can all agree, sucked. Now we’ve got a fresh, retro inspired look with the classic mountain decal from the Stockton/Malone era are on full display!

The jerseys the Jazz wore from the Mid 90s to Early 2000s were not only one of the best in their franchise history, but also league history. Utah needs to make up their mind though. Yeah, these jerseys are sweet, but the hell were they thinking last season? I’m pretty sure that I’ve created better looking jerseys in 2K… It’s not just last year though. Over the years, the Jazz have been really hit or miss with their jersey redesigns. You will see what I mean after checking out the rest of this post.

I think the best way to review Utah’s jerseys would be to use a tier list. I’ve been watching a lot of Top Gear UK reruns lately, and realized they were making tier lists before tier lists were even a thing. They would rank cars on their “Cool Board” under 4 different categories. Seriously Un Cool, Un Cool, Cool, Sub-Zero. To give them their kudos for being pioneers of the tier list, let’s use their rating system to rank some of these jerseys!

SERIOUSLY UN COOL

The T-shirt jerseys era was a terrible era. Hopefully you blocked it out from your memory. While the Jazz did not have the worst T-shirt jerseys out there (looking at you Boston), these sucked. The logo and jersey number on the front just look like they were an afterthought and don’t seem spaced out or centered correctly. Detective Monk would certainly have hated these. The only redeeming factor of these jerseys is that they were different. I guess…

If you want to see something cool, look up Boris Diaw’s highlights on YouTube. Hopefully none of those highlights are him in these awful t-shirts!

SERIOUSLY UN COOL

The 2022-2024 batch of jerseys for Utah are some of the worst jerseys the league has ever seen. The highlighter yellow, the awkward logo placement, and the minimalist design are so bland, its painful to look at. Also, why is the font so large on the home and away kits? I’m just glad they ditched these and revealed some wayyy better jerseys for this upcoming season.

The bright yellow was so blinding, it made me want to change the channel whenever they were on league pass. Luckily, players like Lauri Markkanen, and Colin Sexton balled out and made them a bit more watchable. They have a bright future ahead of them if they are able to add a few more pieces to their squad.

UN COOL

Some of you may disagree with my placement of the 2004-2010 Jazz jerseys. The colors go well together and they’ve had some great players to rock these jerseys during that era. Deron Williams, AK47, Carlos Boozer to name a few.

It’s not that these jerseys are offensive or ugly, they’re just boring. The home and away kits aren’t the worst, but the light blue alternates knocked prevented it from landing in the cool category.

UN COOL

Once every few months I go back and watch Al Jefferson post move highlights on YouTube. His slow motion shot fake around the foul line used to school defenders. I wish I could palm a ball and pull off that move, it’s sweet. I also wish that these jersey could have been more interesting. Super mid.

COOL

Both the green and purple jerseys the Jazz wore for a majority of the 70s and early 80s are timeless. Simple, bold, and effective. They could still be worn today and be one of the better ones in the league. I feel a lot of it has to do with the logo and font choice. Just like Pistol Pete or Adrian Dantley these jerseys are just plain cool.

COOL

When the Jazz first showed off these City edition jerseys I wasn’t sold on them. The yellow and red colors seen on their jerseys and court were chosen to represent the red rocks and canyon lands of southern Utah. While that is a cool idea, it felt so out of place compared to any other jerseys the Jazz have worn throughout their history. We’re expecting purple, blue and green. However, when the crowd was wearing bright red t shirts, Rubio was dropping dimes, and Donavan Mitchell was getting buckets, it really felt like a special event whenever they put on these jerseys. Because of this, I feel that these are cool!

Sub Zero

The jerseys of the 1990s were often tacky, cartoony or loud, and I loved it. Whether is was the Rockets, Raptors or Grizzlies, the snow capped mountains fit right in with the rest of the jerseys of the 90s. Just like a Stockton and Malone Pick and Roll, these jerseys are iconic. You’re lying to yourself if you do not choose these jerseys in 2K or NBA Live when playing as or against the Jazz.

While these have been worn as throwbacks and there have been some alternates with similar vibes by Utah, it’s just great to see them make the mountain a main focal point of their jerseys for the 24-25 season.

Just like the mountain tops in Utah, these jerseys are Su-Zero 🥶

I’m thinking about doing a ranking of 1990s NBA jerseys. If that is something you are interested in let us know!
