Starting Lineup Basketball Cards

In case you haven’t noticed, we’re big fans of Starting Lineups here at Philbin’s Phinds. One thing that has not been highlighted by us yet are the cards that come with each figure. It’s an underrated and underappreciated aspect of the figures. For the most part, a majority of these cards are not worth much today. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t cool! Take a look below at this awesome Kiki Vandewhe card that would have been packaged with the figure that was released in 1988.

It’s neat that these were packages with each figure, however, have you ever wondered what it would look like if they made more of these cards for players across different eras? No? Well too bad. John had a dope idea of creating some custom starting lineup basketball cards for some iconic players. Check ‘em out along with some short excerpts on those players below⬇

Tracy McGrady - Houston Rockets

If they still made Starting Lineups from 2004-2008 Tracy McGrady would have had at least 8 figures. It would have been well deserved too. He was one of the best wing players of the early 2000s. His killer midrange game and a quick first step made him tough to guard!

Ray Allen - Boston Celtics

I’m not sure which was more iconic. Ray Allen’s game-winning corner three in the 2013 finals vs the Spurs, or Mike Breen’s call on the three-pointer. “Rebound Bosh, Back Out To Allen, His Three-Pointer...BANG!”

Yeah, Mike Breen’s call was more iconic.

Yao Ming - Houston Rockets

It’s a shame that Yao Ming wasn’t able to stay healthy. He had a greatly underrated mid range game. For someone his size he had really great touch. Also, Houston needs to bring back these jerseys ASAP!

Vince Carter - Toronto Raptors

Vince just missed the window of the Starting Lineups production run and never received a figure. For the 1999/2000 season, there was a Mattel NBA Super Stars figure created of him which even included a card similar to the Starting Lineup cards. Copy cats….

This one John made is way cooler.

Kevin Garnett - Boston Celtics

After taking down the Lakers in the 2008 Finals, KG memorably yelled, “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!” in his post game interview. I’m not sure if this is possible or not, but maybe one day Hasbro will be able make cool looking Starting Lineups again that don’t look like G.I. Joes.

Charles Oakley -Toronto Raptors

I’m not sure which fact I was more surprised by. The fact that Charles Oakley Played for the Toronto Raptors or the fact that he played for them for three seasons! For some reason he seems out of place when he is not in a Bulls or Knicks Jersey.
